Shannon Czaja, NW Indiana artist. Abstracts, oil and collage on panel. Inspired by surrealistic imagery and photographic manipulation, I create collage paintings contemplating cycles of birth, life, death, and renewal that transition fluidly throughout the surface creating a continuous transformation.

My artwork metaphorically depicts the process of birth, life, death, and renewal. In the laws of thermodynamics, energy is never created or destroyed but continuously recycled through the process of death. Thus, there is always a part of ourselves that never dies but continuously renewed from one life to another. This is something that every living being is a part of and something we all have in common. The paintings consist of collage pieces from photographs I have taken of bones from humans and animals. I cut these photos into smaller pieces and glue them onto the painting surface. I use oil paint to color match the photographic pieces and reconnect the images through oil paint creating a surrealistic visual depiction. The images in this painting are fluidly transitioning throughout the surface creating a continuous transformation.
